Lakai - Fully Flared

Cinematography, Skateboarding & Explosions.

Spike Jonze seems to find a way to combine these three elements to create something simply entertaining, the final explosion is impressive, I can almost smell the singed hair from here.

if you're interested in some more of Spike Jonze's work, here's a few music video clips from his back catologue:

Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Fatboy Slim - Praise You
Bjork - It's Oh So Quiet
Notorious BIG - Sky's the Limit
Wax - Southern California
Weezer - Undone (The Sweater Song)

101: KAWS by i-D

i-Dtv interviewed KAWS after he did their latest issue. The 4 1/2 minutes pass him off as a bang up individual. How about that!

Honourable Mention: Teens from the 70s/80s

Photographed by Joseph Szabo. I wonder what response you'd get if you showed our photos to someone twenty or thirty years in the future?

A little audacious for me to make such a remark. Deal.

Number Crunching: A Pessimists Guide to Summer Festivals

Soon this shit weather will subside into another Spring. Spring means the start of FESTIVAL SEASON, which the North is experiencing right now. The Times featured a series of fancy charts but not enough pie charts analysing how bad they really are.

Recreated below:

Religious Intolerance Dept: Fuck Atheism, Go Creationism

NB: I'm assuming that the individual is a believer in creationism over him being a Christan zealot. It's more fun that way.

Fisticuffs: Dieter Brummer in unscripted brawl

Yes, that Dieter Brummer.

He spent some 10 minutes trying to talk his way into Q Bar. Someone pointed him out to me and excited at the prospect of photographing a celebrity (!!!) I walked up and asked him as I took my camera up to face level.

He grabbed the lens and told me that "I should have asked first" to which I noted that I had asked first, but had also primed my camera to take a shot in one cocksure simultaneous action. Not willing to relinquish his grip on my hard, metallic lens he suddenly was told by a chivalrous fellow to "let go", citing the camera's value as a the prime motivating factor.

Dieter, drunk with rage and alcohol told him to "get fucked", resulting in a fist to Dieter's perfectly chiseled face. The following photos are horrible as my camera was set to "Celebrity" and not "Brawl" but it's better than nothing:

Acid Tongue: OAF, 31st May

I got called a "vulture" for taking a photo of this mind fucked patron:

It was worth it.

Golf Clap: Real "Fight Club" tourneys in Union Square

I caught the following from PSFK:

I was off the subway and taking the stairs two at once, faster than you can spell-check Palahniuk. Hundreds of people stood in a big ring right there by the Shoe Mania, cheering and chanting. All kinds of people: old people, moms with strollers, skateboarding teens, foreign tourists throwing Euros around.

They could have been watching some awesome breakdancing group or an unusually good street magician. But instead, two shirtless guys were flopping around on the ground, grunting and grating one another’s faces across the cobblestones. One guy pinned the other and a shirtless ref called the match. Both fighters leapt up, gave each other the universally-approved one-armed bro-hug and left the ring together, laughing.

This YouTube video gives you a better idea:

While the poor fighting skills of the combatants is mildly amusing, mostly embarrassing, I feel it's the intermission by the chair owning hobo that really makes it all stand out.

Book Barn: Crime

Crime, by author and documentary maker Alix Lambert, is billed as a series of “extraordinary interviews exposing the world of crime – real and imagined”. Lambert talked to a range of authors, detectives, even murderers, in her investigation into the true nature of criminal acts – the book’s design references the ways that crime has infiltrated our visual culture…

Spin Doctor: The Deckland Diaries

Deckland is a positive, enthusiastic chap. Having only a rudimentary knowledge of photography gained at a course a few years ago he was the perfect candidate to join our equally ignorant and blissful band.

Some shots from his first weekend:
